Hi, I’m Anne, owner of Bluffview Cleaning Service here in Onalaska. Let’s talk about one of the most important, yet often dreaded, parts of the home to clean: the toilet. It’s not glamorous, but keeping your toilet fresh, sanitized, and sparkling can make a huge difference in the overall feel of your bathroom. And the good news? It doesn’t have to be a complicated or unpleasant task when you have the right tools and know-how.
Start by gathering your supplies. You’ll need rubber gloves, a good toilet bowl cleaner (or a mix of white vinegar and baking soda if you prefer natural products), a toilet brush, disinfecting spray or wipes, and either paper towels or a cleaning cloth. For tough stains or hard water rings, a pumice stone can also come in handy.
Begin by applying toilet bowl cleaner around the inside of the bowl, making sure to coat under the rim. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. If you’re going the natural route, pour about half a cup of white vinegar into the bowl followed by a sprinkle of baking soda. This gives the cleaner time to break down stains, odors, and bacteria. Once it’s had time to sit, scrub the inside thoroughly with your toilet brush, focusing on the water line and any trouble spots.
Next, close the lid and disinfect the entire outer surface of the toilet, including the handle, lid, seat, base, and back. Spray all areas with a disinfecting cleaner and wipe everything down using a disposable towel or a dedicated cleaning cloth. Be especially mindful of commonly missed areas like the seat hinges and the base around the floor. Speaking of the floor, don’t forget to give the area around the toilet a quick vacuum or wipe, dust and hair love to collect there!
It’s also a good idea to regularly clean your toilet brush and holder. Just soak them in a bleach solution every now and then to keep them from becoming part of the problem. For ongoing freshness, consider using a drop-in toilet cleaner or placing a cotton ball with a few drops of essential oil behind the toilet.
Ideally, toilets should be cleaned at least once a week, more often in busy households. A clean toilet not only looks better but creates a healthier, more comfortable space for everyone in your home. And if you’d rather not spend your time scrubbing, that’s exactly what I’m here for! At Bluffview Cleaning Service, I offer detailed, reliable, and affordable cleaning to help take one more task off your plate.
